It doesn’t seem like KC was especially popular in Japan, making the game’s copying of the school even… odder.ĭahlia Gillespie is a hell of a character, albeit far more shallow than later villains in the series. I’d bet that Arnie could survive Silent Hill. The design of Midwich Elementary School was based on the school used in the Arnold Schwarzenegger flick Kindergarten Cop. The child monsters themselves do not appear in the Japanese and European versions due to censorship. As it is, the noises they make in the final game, which sound like the voices and laughter of children played backwards, are disturbing enough. Someone must have realized that giving them those voices veered too close to the edge of bad taste. In the demo version of the game, the child monsters actually had laughing infants for their voices. The game’s script was translated into English by Latina International, the same company that did the localization for Final Fantasy VII. The American staff changed the names because they were too common. Harry and Cheryl were originally going to be named… Humbert and Dolores after the main characters in Nabakov’s Lolita.
